THE BRIANNA FUND:
CELEBRATING DIVERSITY IN THE SPIRIT
By Vanessa Ford
In 1998, The Brianna Fund for Children with Physical Disabilities was established to enable opportunities for access. Brianna Johnson was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a condition that causes brittle bones and severe fractures. Brianna’s family raised funds to purchase a wheelchair accessible van. Seeing that there were similar needs in the community, her parents chose to expand the purpose of The Brianna Fund to serve others. Since then, it has remarkably provided mobility in the lives of 42 children and their families, enhancing quality of life and promoting a more productive future for “differently-abled” children. Grants given by The Brianna Fund are made possible through contributions that directly assist families in need living in the Greater Springfield community.
In honor of the mission of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., The Brianna Fund hosts a gospel concert which seeks to unite us “in the Spirit”, regardless of church affiliation, denomination, race or ethnicity. Marvelous displays of gifts and talents have been showcased over the years in support of this very worthy cause.
We anticipate a powerful worship experience at our upcoming 16th Annual MLK Jr. Benefit Gospel Concert on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 6pm at St. John’s Congregational Church located at 643 Union St. in Springfield, MA. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Diversity in the Spirit,” highlighting all of the wonderful forms of praise to God. You don’t want to miss two amazing examples of God’s anointing, Terrance Shider and Kandice Jones, who will combine to share their gifts in a special way.
In addition to all of the great gospel music, we will present “The Brianna Fund for Children with Physical Disabilities Community Service Angel Award” to a very deserving recipient for their dedication to the community. As we continue to strive forward in unity embracing our cultural and physical differences while keeping Dr. King’s dream alive, we pray that you will join us in joyful expectation of a great blessing!
To all those who also have a dream, we hope to see you on January 18th in support of this life-changing effort to create “Hope, Flight and Freedom” for us all. There is no cost to attend. A free will love offering will be collected.
You can make a difference! Make a tax deductible contribution today! Mail it to The Brianna Fund for Children with Physical Disabilities, P.O. Box 1702, Springfield, MA 01101. If you would like more information about The Brianna Fund, please contact Donna Johnson at (413)204-0145 or visit our website: www.briannafund.org.
